The Total Mobility scheme is a national New Zealand scheme which supports people who cannot use public transport to travel, all or some of the time.
We would like to remind you all that the Total Mobility subsidy ( for door to door taxi/private hire trips with approved Total Mobility operators) is now permanently set at 75% (as announced by Government earlier this year) for customers with a valid Total Mobility card. The subsidy will not revert to 50% subsidy on 1 July 2023.
- If a total fare is $20.00, the Total Mobility customer pays $5.00 and Total Mobility is charged $15.00.
Please note customers with a valid Total Mobility card do not need to also be a Community Service Card holder to be eligible for the Total Mobility subsidy from 1 July 2023. Total Mobility customers will need to present their Total Mobility card to the driver of an approved Total Mobility operator company (as they currently do) at the time of their trip to receive the Total Mobility subsidy.

- Getting off the bus, train or ferry.

Fares are pre booked and pre quoted. Assistance is provided to get in and out of the vehicle and to escort you to and from your appointments. Services can be provided for weekly shopping, trips to the vets and many other excursions.
If required a companion service can be offered, such as a driver taking you into places such as the supermarket and assist you with your tasks. This will be charged separately.
Mobility needs are also catered for, and vehicles can carry walking frames. Wheelchair accessible vehicles are available in some areas of Auckland.
- Our fare is $2.65 a minute (we use Google maps to calculate your fare).
- Waiting time is charged at $0.50 per minute (at driver’s discretion).
- There is a $3 Total Mobility booking fee in addition to the fare.
For more information please have a look at the AT website.
Further Information:
Scheme users are issued with an electronic card or a book of vouchers. You can obtain an electronic card or vouchers from the relevant regional council. Total mobility subsidies can be claimed anywhere in New Zealand where the scheme operates.
The subsidy per trip is 75% of the fare, up to a maximum subsidy. The maximum subsidy varies between regions; these costs are available under the regional information in this guide. If the total fare is more than the maximum subsidy you must meet the additional cost.
The Total Mobility Scheme is intended to complement public transport services and ensure people with impairments can meet their daily needs in a safe and dignified manner. It is open to people with a permanent, temporary or fluctuating disability that prevents them from travelling on buses, trains or ferries, or getting to or from where the public transport starts or ends. It also provides funding assistance to purchase and install wheelchair hoists in taxi vans. The scheme has no minimum fare threshold. A 75% discount applies until a maximum subsidy is reached. The maximum subsidy varies between regions.
