A taxi gets you to an address.
Companion driving can take you a little further.
Imagine you have a hospital appointment.
Getting into the car may be only the first challenge. There’s the walker to fold away. Finding the right entrance. Getting from the car park to reception. Working out where the clinic is. Then doing it all again when the appointment finishes.
That’s where Freedom is different.
Our service is built around what we call door-to-door support. Rather than simply pulling up at the kerb, your Freedom Driver can provide appropriate assistance at either end of the journey and make sure you get safely to where you need to be.
For a medical appointment, that might mean allowing extra time, helping with your walker or belongings, accompanying you into the clinic, agreeing whether to wait or return later, and seeing you safely home afterwards. Freedom’s operating standard specifically describes door-to-door assistance as one of the things that distinguishes companion driving from an ordinary taxi or rideshare.
It’s not about taking over.
In fact, our drivers are trained to do the opposite: help people do as much as they safely can for themselves, move at their pace and offer support without unnecessarily taking away their independence.
Sometimes the most valuable part of a journey isn’t the driving.
It’s knowing there will be a friendly, reliable person there to help you through the bits in between.
