I was born in Gisborne into a large family of eleven children and have family scattered all over New Zealand, Australia and a couple of family members living in parts of Asia.
Coming from a taxi driving background the main areas I worked were Saint Martin’s/Opawa, Woolston and Linwood so I know these areas very well and have a wide knowledge of most of Christchurch.
I have a worked in lots of industries such as: military, construction, forestry, computer and many more with my last being taxis where I worked for over 10 years.
Outside of work I like vegetable gardening, tinkering with computers and the internet and have always had an interest in cars starting many years ago, when with the help of my neighbour I helped strip a motor down and put it back together again in working condition.
What drew me to Freedom Drivers is for years I’ve had the desire to operate my own business and this coupled with the knowledge gained from driving taxis decided I couldn’t go wrong. Also, Freedom Drivers only has a small percentage of the passenger service market and I have a long-term desire to help grow Freedom Drivers footprint in Christchurch and the Canterbury region.
I bring to Freedom Drivers a wide range of attributes:
- How I first present myself and my vehicle is always high on my list,
- Familiarizing myself with the passengers needs via simple communication skills ensures any required assistance is provided at both the start and end of the trip,
- Driving in a safe and comfortable manner always helps put the passengers mind at ease during the trip,
- Picking customers up and dropping them off in a timely manner is always my aim and is achievable by having good knowledge of Christchurch city and outer suburbs and Canterbury region.
I’ve always been of the view that what you put in is what you get out. So, if you provide a good service, you will get return work and if you provide bad service then you better start learning very quickly or get another job.
Freedom has been a godsend to me. Trapped without transport and a work site not covered by public transport, I was in a quandary about how to get to work. Then I saw an ad for Freedom. Problem solved. My driver picks me up at Silverdale and takes me to work then returns me home. He is always punctual and the vehicle is always immaculately clean. Awesome! Thank you Freedom!

What a wonderful service Gavin provides. My elderly mum is now quite vulnerable, and certainly not able to drive and so Gavin has been a godsend, not only taking mum to and from appointments but also staying with her to make sure information is passed on to me when I can’t be there. Freedom Drivers Hibiscus Coast came to my rescue 18 months ago when I commenced my monthly trips to Waitakere Hospital Day Stay.
