Kia Ora everyone, my name is Shirley Mae and I am delighted to be able to bring the wonderful Freedom Drivers service to the Wellington North region.
I was born in Christchurch and grew up on a small farm, with lots of animals, in the country town of Kurow, North Otago. Three years ago I moved to Ranui, Porirua with my partner and have since found out that my grandfather was from Paramata, so it feels like coming home.
I have a background in the caring sector having worked in early childcare centres and then the aged and disability sectors for many years. I hold a Level 3 National Certificate in Health, Disability and Aged Support and I am a fully qualified therapeutic massage therapist.
My partner and I are active members of the local community attending Cerco (Modern Jive) classes in Petone every Friday night and I am involved with WSD (Widowed, Separated and Divorced) support groups where I have been the secretary for 5 years. Other interests include dance, music, sci-fi and fantasy, movies and health and nutrition.
I am very aligned with the values of the Freedom Drivers service. While working in the disability and aged care sector, I really enjoyed taking residents to their appointments and for shopping and outings. It was very satisfying and I loved building warm caring relationships with our residents.
Through Freedom Drivers I look forward to offering a friendly, personal local service. If you need transport, especially if you love your independence but need a little extra help and support getting around, I am really looking forward to meeting you.
I am available for short local trips and also for longer trips into the Hutt Valley, Wellington and beyond. Total Mobility cards are taken and I offer a relaxed and flexible service. Please get in touch to find out more.
